Tech Center Seeks to Bridge the Tech Divide by Offering After-School Academic Enrichment Opportunities for Newark Students and Community Members at the Old South Ward Boys & Girls Club

 

Newark, NJ—October 11, 2016—Mayor Ras J. Baraka, State Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino, National Action Network President and Founder Rev. Al Sharpton, and Panasonic Corporation of North America CEO Joseph M. Taylor will unveil the National Action Network Newark Tech Center on Thursday, October 13, at 2:30 p.m., at 400 Hawthorne Avenue, in Newark’s South Ward. After the ceremony, the dignitaries will tour the facility

 

NAN Newark Tech World is a collaboration of various local stakeholders initiating a bold multi-sector call to action to provide skills to community members and students of color in Newark. This extends the current efforts of Mayor Baraka’s Office to empower Newark residents and meet the talent needs of local businesses. NAN Newark Tech World is going to be a transformational institution in Newark that is free for students and will teach courses in web design, graphic design, digital literacy, networking, and more. Panasonic North America will be the anchor funder of Tech World which will operate in conjunction with local universities and nonprofits. NAN-Newark Tech World will serve as a high-tech community center for the City of Newark.
